Review: World War Hulks #1

Review: Ender
Date: Apr 07, 2010
Rating:

For a book called World War Hulks (see how they put that clever “s” on the World War Hulk title), there sure isn’t much war. Hulks, yes. World, sure. War, not so much. Maybe it should have been World of Hulks.

The issue is a series of short moments, all with high action content, and features a cast of Hulk characters that one would expect to be listed in the “Also Starring” section of the credits.

Two of the stories feature Glenn Talbot, my new favorite Rulk candidate. One is a Doc Sampson story; another features the Ablumination; er, I mean “A-Bomb”, and another about the Red She-Hulk (who needs a name?). These stories are decent in and of themselves, but I’m not sure what the point was collecting them here. None of them seem to go anywhere. They open, there’s a fight with maybe some minor character insight of a previously implied variety, and then it’s over.

Is it just me, or does World War Hulks make you think of a large group of Hulks hitting each other or at least everyone else?

The only story that seemed to go anywhere was the Deadpool one at the end, although that may be because it is clearly a set up to be continued elsewhere.

I’m not sure what the function of this book of short mediocre stories is, but I don’t think it’s accomplishing its mission. Here’s hoping this series picks up.
