Death Of The New Gods #3

So honestly I found the first issue of this book to be a big bore. Nothing went on and I really didn’t think I was going to be picking it up at all. But of coarse me being a huge DC Comics nut I gave issue 2 a chance and fell in love with Jim Starlin’s wonderful story he has going on here. Starlin is showing me that he can right a really great story and can also get the characters right. I was never a fan of Mr. Miracle and Big Barda, but always loved Darkseid and gang. He has written this story arc perfectly thus far and I really can feel that something big is going to happen.

In this story Orion, Mr. Miracle and Superman are headed to Apokalips to confront Darkseid about the murders of the New Gods that they believe he has committed. As they travel on Superman questions the true nature of Darkseid being the murderer and maybe it is someone else. The relationship between Superman and Orion has become very heated and both are very emotional with one another. AS the get closer to Darkseid’s castle it is revealed to them by Granny Goodness that Darkseid has been sitting in his castle and has left his people to die in their hour of need. Upon finding Darkseid they come learn that some of his friends have been killed the same way that the New gods have been killed. Darkseid tries to use the anti-life equation on the Heroes but Mr. Mircale reveals that he has total control of the equation and uses it to see if Darkseid is lying. He finds that he isn’t and tells Darkseid they will leave him where he is and let him face his fate the best he can. Upon returning to New Genesis the trio finds that Takion has been killed in the same vane as Big Barda and that this enemy will not rest until they have killed all of the Gods.

The story is unraveling at a great pace and I really am enjoying this ride. Matt Benning is on the art chores in this issue and I have to say he really shined in this issue. The battle scenes were drawn wonderfully; my only gripe is the way Superman was drawn, as he doesn’t look powerful enough in my opinion.
