Review: Brightest Day #2

Review: Jay Cochran

Well having read through issue #2 of the Brightest Day comic from DC, I can clearly state, I still don’t really have any idea of what is going on. Obviously the characters that returned from the dead at the end of “Blackest Night” are encountering some sort of side-effects from that event, but as to how or why remains a complete mystery to me.

This issue focused mainly on the characters of Firestorm, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman & Hawkgirl and at the end, Deadman who makes a discovery that will have far reaching repercussions to the DC Universe, at least as far reaching as next issue.

Not being what I call a hardcore DC fan I find some of the character subplots hard to follow at times, however writer Geoff Johns & Peter Tomasi do a good job of keeping me interested in what might happen next, even if I don’t fully understand what is happening now.

The art by Ivan Reis and company is also adequate for the story, I particularly enjoyed the segments with Atom who takes a trip inside Firestorm. I see a possible cool new action figure for either Mattel or DC Direct to do with the new Atom Armor that we see worn in this issue.

I’m not completely sold on this story yet but I will certainly be checking out issue #3 to see what happens next and hope we start getting some answers instead of just more questions.
